Reconstruction works have started at Sarajevo International Airport

As already announced, Sarajevo International Airport have started demolition works of old Terminal building A. Actually, this building next to Terminal B, long ago stopped being used for its original purpose. After demolition of the old Terminal A, the renewed Terminal B is going to be extended.
Terminal A was used for commercial air traffic from 1969 till beginning of the war in 1992. After construction of the existing Terminal B, the old one was used as office space for airport employees and the restaurant open for visitors, too.
What went before the demolition was preparation works in the period of several months, including assembly and furnishing of two prefabricated structures with all accompanying infrastructure in order to accommodate the employees.
Meanwhile some 120 employees from the Air traffic operation centre, Catering service and other services have been moved to different locations.
To cut the costs it was decided to use all the equipment from the old Terminal A (like the kitchen, heating-cooling system, furniture, audio-video systems, etc.) for equipping these provisional buildings. The Contractor is also obliged to select the waste so that the Airport can sell the waste of market value.
The reconstruction works started with demolition of the old administrative building. The restaurant in Terminal A was closed on December 1, 2017 so that the kitchen equipment and appliances could be dismantled and moved to a new space in a block of containers to replace the old restaurant.
The works include site preparation, demolition of the building, removal of soil and taking down the structure. Costs of the works are estimated to 160.000 KM. Demolition works should be finished by the end of the year.
